10 Super Foods for Your Health

Many times I am asked by my health coaching clients or others whom I speak with “What do you put in your smoothies?” I usually answer with “A little bit of everything!”. Today I want to share with you the super food supplements that I have been using in my morning smoothie for the past year, and how you can now order a smoothie supplement blend created by me! 1. Organic Barley Grass Powder 

According to drug.com, The juice of barley grass contains beta carotene, vitamins B1, B2, B6, B12, pantothenic acid, and folic acid. Minerals present include potassium, calcium, iron, phosphorus, and magnesium. Other constituents are chlorophyll, amino acids, protein, fiber, and enzymes. Vitamin B12 deficiency may be avoided in vegetarian diets by supplementation with dehydrated barley grass juice. Barley grass is high in antioxidant activity, may prevent cancer, and has cholesterol-lowering effects. Suggested benefits include treatment of HIV infection, detoxification of pollutants, and boosting energy and immunity.

2. Organic Goji Berries

According to drug.com, Goji Berries are antioxidant, immune-enhancing, and have neuro-, hepato-, and ophthalmic-protective effects.

3. Organic Wheat Grass Powder

Hippocratesinst.org says that wheat grass increases red blood-cell count and lowers blood pressure. It cleanses the blood, organs and gastrointestinal tract of debris. Stimulates metabolism and the body’s enzyme systems by enriching the blood. It also aids in reducing blood pressure by dilating the blood pathways throughout the body.

4. Organic Flax Seeds

Eatingwell.com says that two tablespoons of flaxseed meal contains 4 grams of fiber, 2.4 grams of the short-chain omega-3 alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), and 300 milligrams of lignans. Both ALA and lignans are anti-inflammatory, and lignans may also help lower cholesterol levels.

5. Organic Hemp Seeds

Shape.com say that two tablespoons of Hemp seed contains 6 grams of fat (including 882 milligrams of ALA), 2 grams of fiber, and 5 grams of protein. One unique characteristic of hemp seeds is that they contain all essential amino acids—something uncommon with plant protein sources—making them a great addition for people on a vegetarian or vegan diet.

6. Organic Chia Seeds

Eatright.org says Chia seeds contain omega-3 fatty acid, fiber, protein, and minerals including iron, calcium, magnesium and zinc.

7. Organic Raw Cacao Nibs

According to Livestrong.com, raw cacao promotes the release of neurotransmitters, which promote a positive outlook and bodily rejuvenation, and release feel-good hormones. Raw cacao raises levels of serotonin, a neurotransmitter, and acts as an anti-depressant that can help reduce symptoms of PMS. It also stimulates the secretion of endorphins, which produce a pleasurable sensation, and phenylethylamine which is a mild mood booster. Raw cacao is a rich source of antioxidant flavonoids that promote cardiovascular health and protect against toxins. The antioxidant flavonoids in raw cacao can help improve circulation, regular heartbeat and blood pressure. Additionally, they help the body repair itself and resist free-radical toxins.

8. Lucuma Powder

Livestrong.com says Lucuma provides 14 essential trace elements, including a considerable amount of potassium, sodium, calcium, magnesium and phosphorus may have anti-inflammatory, anti-aging and skin-repair effects on human skin.

9. Camu Powder

According to Livestrong.com,  Camu-Camu has a high vitamin C content, it contains 10 times more iron, three times more niacin and twice as much riboflavin as oranges. As a result, and may be as effective as vitamin C tablets in fighting free radicals and reducing oxidative stress in the brain. Camu-camu also contains dietary amounts of beta-carotene, calcium and protein.

10. Acidophilis Powder

Acidophilus is a type of probiotic. Probiotics are good bacteria. Livestrong.com  says the role of acidophilus is thought to be that of maintaining the amount of acid in the body, preventing the growth of harmful bacteria, molds, fungus and destructive parasites.

This makes two servings. (P.S. I use a vita-mix blender that is very powerful. If your blender isn’t as powerful, you may want to leave out any tough to blend veggies, fruits or nuts)

Choco-Banana Smoothie

In a blender combine the following:

2 cups water (If you like your smoothies cold, use 1 cup of ice in place of 1 cup of water)

2 Tbs REAL SuperFood Smoothie Mix, Chocolate flavor

1 TBS Organic, Cold-pressed Coconut Oil

1 Banana, peeled

1 cup Spinach and/or Kale

1 large carrot

Small handful raw almonds

Blend for 1 minute on high and ENJOY!
